This morning we woke up to the Mountain Fire burning near Canyon Road. At the time of writing, the Mountain Fire stands at a 0% containment with an estimate of 1,500+ acres burning. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place. Fire can spread quickly, do not hesitate if you are in the path of any of the fires, you will need to evacuate.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Ventura County Fire Department, is monitoring a developing Santa Ana wind event. Winds are expected to impact the Ventura County area from late tonight (10/17) through Saturday (10/19). As a result of the forecasted winds and potential fire danger, Southern California Edison is considering a potential Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).
 




(SANTA BARBARA) – On Wednesday, Senator Monique Limón presented $1.6 million in state funding to support a multitude of climate resilience projects throughout Santa Barbara County. This funding will support the Community Environmental Council’s Regional Climate Collaborative work, and multiple projects in partnership with the County of Santa Barbara and other community organizations. 




(SACRAMENTO) – On Sunday, legislation to bring transparency to Governor appointed State Board and Commission seats was vetoed by Governor Gavin Newsom. SB 782, authored by Senator Monique Limón, is a priority for the bipartisan California Legislative Women’s Caucus, LGBTQ Caucus, California Latino Legislative Caucus, and the California Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. For four years, similar legislation has received bipartisan, unanimous support from both houses. 




(SACRAMENTO) - On Friday night, Senator Monique Limón’s legislation to expand the use of beneficial fire was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom. SB 1101 passed out of the California State Legislature with bipartisan, unanimous support. As California continues to see prolonged and worsening fire seasons, beneficial fire will help to cut down excess fire fuels. 




(SACRAMENTO) – Legislation authored by Senator Monique Limón to ensure medical debt does not hurt consumer credit scores, has been signed by Governor Gavin Newsom. California joins seven other states to protect California consumers from the ruinous effects of medical debt on credit reports. 




(SACRAMENTO) –SB 299, authored by Senator Monique Limón to expand voter participation passed out of the Senate today and is headed to the Governor for consideration. SB 299 seeks to register the more than 4 million Californians who are all eligible to vote but are not currently registered.
