Leaders in the Legislature Presented $13 million In State Funds to Ventura County Officials

(OXNARD) Senator Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara) and Assemblymember Bennett (D-Ventura) presented two checks for a total of $13 million dollars to Ventura County Officials on Wednesday. These investments will be used to create more transitional and permanent supportive housing, and help fund the modernization of the Nyeland Acres Community Center.

“I was honored to present $13 million in state funds to the County of Ventura to fund needed projects in our community,” said Senator Limón. “With the addition of more transitional and permanent housing in our county, as well as the expansion of a community center that will serve hundreds in the Nyeland Acres community, we are bringing rejuvenation to the County of Ventura. These projects are a glimpse of what can happen when local representatives and community leaders come together.”

“It was an honor working with my legislative colleagues, Assemblymember Irwin and Senator Limón, in securing state funding for the Vanguard Supportive Housing Project and Nyeland Acres Community Center. Thank you Senator Limón for leading these critical efforts in closing gaps in programs and services in Oxnard that will continue to help our communities thrive,” said Assemblymember Bennett (D-Ventura).

“It was my pleasure to support both Senator Monique Limón and Assemblymember Steve Bennett in their request for much needed funding in their districts,” said Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks). “Capitalizing on surplus county owned buildings for transitional and permanent supportive housing is a win-win for both the State and the City of Oxnard. The residents of Nyeland Acres are especially deserving of the funding provided for modernization of the Nyeland Acres Community Center. Together, this $13 million investment in the community will not only provide critical housing but ensure that educational and recreational programs continue to be available to well deserving residents.”

“The funding we received today as a result of the leadership of Senator Limón is going to positively impact hundreds of lives here in Ventura County. This money will be put to good use as it bolsters the County’s efforts to create much-needed permanent supportive housing while also helping us build a brand new community center to support the residents of Nyeland Acres. We value our strong partnership with Senator Limon and always appreciate her continual commitment to advocate for the residents of Ventura County in Sacramento,” said Supervisor Matt LaVere.

“I am grateful for the work of Senator Limón in Sacramento, bringing significant investments for residents of Ventura County,” said Supervisor Vianey Lopez. “The conversion of the Vanguard Building into a homeless transition center and permanent supportive housing will further the County and City of Oxnard’s commitment to reduce the homeless population, offering much needed resources to those in need in one place. Rebuilding the Nyeland Acres Community Center will benefit the families of the neighborhood immensely, with a larger space for programs for kids, seniors and everyone in between.”

“Thank you Senator Monique Limon on behalf of the City Council for the $5.5 million dollar check for the proposed project for the Nyeland Acres Community Center which will benefit the disadvantaged community of Nyeland Acres as an emergency shelter during disasters and a cooling center during extreme hot weather,” said Mayor John C. Zaragoza. “The center will also continue to provide indoor sports and a center for youth programs.I want to thank Mike Barber & Mary Ann Rooney and all the comadres & compadres for making the Nyeland Promise a huge success.”
