Women's Caucus Chair Praises Signing of Retirement Security Legislation

September 29, 2016

SACRAMENTO – This morning, Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 1234, authored by California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de Leόn (D-Los Angeles), to establish a first-of-its-kind retirement savings program for private-sector workers who do not have access to a savings plan at their workplace. In response, Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara), chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, released the following statement:

“The lack of retirement savings impacts all Californians, but affects women particularly significantly, “ said Jackson. “Women in retirement face careers impacted by a lifetime of unequal pay, and career earnings interrupted by the need to care for children and families. In addition, because women also live longer, their need for secure retirement savings is greater. This bill is vitally important for building a stronger and more secure future for California women, our economy and their families, and I am grateful to the Governor and Senate Leader Kevin de Leόn for their leadership on this issue.”
