KCLU: Bill by South Coast Legislator to Help Disabled Veterans Now on Governor's Desk

September 04, 2015

SB 221 would give new state employees who are disabled veterans up to 96 hours of paid leave during their first year on the job, so they don’t have to take unpaid time off for medical appointment, or other medical issues.

The bill was authored by Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara.  Jackson says the idea is to allow the veterans to receive needed medical care without jeopardizing their jobs, or creating a financial strain because of having to take unpaid leave.
