SACRAMENTO – A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to help wounded veterans transition from military service to the state workforce passed out of the State Senate recently on a unanimous, bipartisan, 38-0 vote and is now headed to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to help wounded veterans transition from military service to the state workforce passed out of the State Senate recently on a unanimous, bipartisan, 38-0 vote and is now headed to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk.
 
Senate Bill 221, the California Wounded Warriors Transitional Leave Act, will give new state employees who are disabled veterans up to 96 hours of sick leave during their first year in the state workforce to attend medical and VA appointments during work hours without having to take unpaid leave.

SB 358 Will Be the Strongest Equal Pay Law in the Nation; Governor’s Office Has Already Indicated Support for the Bill 

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to close the wage gap that women face at work cleared its final hurdle in the Legislature today, passing off the Senate floor on a bipartisan, 39-0 vote. The bill now heads to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk just a few days after his office took the unusual step of announcing the Governor’s support for the bill on Twitter.

SB 358 Would Be the Strongest Equal Pay Law in the Nation; CA Women Make 84 Cents to Every Dollar a Man Earns

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to close the wage gap that women face at work passed off the Assembly floor today on a bipartisan, 76-2 vote. The bill now heads to the Senate for a final vote before heading to the Governor’s desk.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to prohibit drones from trespassing on private property without the owner’s permission and invading Californians’ privacy passed off the Senate floor today. The vote was 21-10. The bill passed off the Assembly floor earlier this week on a bipartisan, 56-13 vote.

Senate Bill 142 now heads to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk.

SACRAMENTO –A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to allow community colleges to discipline students for sexual assault violations even if they occur off-campus passed off the Assembly floor today on a bipartisan vote. The vote was 63-0.

The bill now heads to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk.

SACRAMENTO – The Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management and the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a joint oversight hearing on Tuesday, August 18 that delves into the risks and benefits of drone use during fires, medical emergencies and other emergency response situations. The hearing will be held at 1:30 p.m. in room 444 of the State Capitol.

SANTA BARBARA – On Monday at 10 a.m. – just days after estimates of the magnitude of the recent Refugio Oil Spill were revised upwards – State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) will be joined by local leaders, environmentalists and members of the business community to urge a ban on new offshore oil drilling in an area of the Santa Barbara Channel known as Tranquillon Ridge.

CAMARILLO – Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) will host a free seminar on Thursday, August 6 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. to provide information to seniors on how to protect themselves from becoming victims of fraud. The City of Camarillo and the California Contractors State License Board are co-hosting the seminar.
