SANTA BARBARA – Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) will host a free seminar on Thursday, February 4 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in Santa Barbara to provide information to Spanish-speaking seniors on how to protect themselves from becoming victims of fraud. The City of Santa Barbara and the California Contractors State License Board are co-hosting the seminar, with support from local organizations, the Community Action Commission and the Latino Elder Outreach Network.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to help wounded veterans transition from military service to the state workforce has been signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.

Senate Bill 221, the California Wounded Warriors Transitional Leave Act, will give new state employees who are disabled veterans up to 96 hours of sick leave during their first year in the state workforce to attend medical and VA appointments during work hours without having to take unpaid leave.

SACRAMENTO – Two bills authored by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) that arose in response to this year’s Refugio Oil Spill in Santa Barbara County have just been signed by Governor Jerry Brown. They would require more frequent oil pipeline inspections and improve oil spill response.

RICHMOND – Today, in a ceremony held at the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historic Park, flanked by women and girls of all ages, as well as other legislators and supporters, Governor Jerry Brown signed the strongest equal pay law in the country, Senate Bill 358 by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara).
