SACRAMENTO – A bill by State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to strengthen California’s Paid Family Leave program by allowing workers to receive benefits while caring for seriously ill grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, and in-laws passed off the Senate floor today.  The vote was 29-9.

SACRAMENTO – Just in time for Memorial Day, a resolution by State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to specify portions of a highway in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties as part of the National Purple Heart Trail passed off the Senate floor. The vote was unanimous, 36-0.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) has selected Oxnard-based Agromin, a soil product manufacturer and the composter for over 50 California cities, as the 2013 Small Business of the Year for her Senate District.

Agromin will be honored along with more than 70 other businesses at the California Small Business Day event in Sacramento on June 10. Held since 2000, the event is an opportunity for legislators to honor exceptional small businesses in California.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) released the following statement on the May Revise, the Governor’s revised budget proposal based on the latest revenue estimates:

“I’m pleased that our state’s finances remain stable, and that, for the first time in many years, we are able to take a deep breath and start repairing the damage done by years of budget cuts, while continuing to govern responsibly.  I’m pleased that the Governor has proposed a budget that errs towards “prudence” rather than “exuberance.”

SANTA BARBARA – Central Coast small business owners and employees will soon have an opportunity to learn first-hand how the Affordable Care Act will affect them.

The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (Go-Biz) is presenting a working lunch for small businesses on the new federal health care law. It will be held on Friday, June 7 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Santa Barbara City College, East Campus Cafeteria, 721 Cliff Drive, Santa Barbara.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to protect drinking water and bring more regulation and oversight to the oil and gas extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing or fracking, passed out of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee. The vote was 6-3.

SANTA BARBARA – Today, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) safely and publicly disposed of her unused prescription drug medication at an event designed to raise awareness about her Senate Bill 727, a bill that would require drug manufacturers to develop a comprehensive, statewide plan for the safe disposal of unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

SANTA BARBARA – State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara), the author of a bill requiring drug manufacturers to develop a plan for the safe disposal of unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs, will be safely disposing of her own unused medications on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
