SACRAMENTO – A bill by State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to protect consumer privacy when making certain online purchases passed off the Senate Floor today and is now headed to the State Assembly. The vote was 21-13.

Senate Bill 383 protects consumer privacy when customers are using a credit card to purchase songs, movies, apps, ebooks and other content that is downloaded online.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D - Santa Barbara) that would allow voter pre-registration beginning at age 16 passed off the Senate floor today and is now headed to the State Assembly. The vote was 24-8.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) announced the recent formation of the Select Committee on Passenger Rail, and that she will be the select committee’s chair.

“Passenger rail reduces congestion and vehicle emissions and helps us move people and goods efficiently, “ Jackson said. “With a select committee like this, I’m hoping we can help give existing and future passenger and commuter rail projects the policy attention and priority they deserve.”

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) announced that she has been named chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee by Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.
 
“I’m extremely honored to be named to chair this important committee,” Jackson said. “One of my priorities is going to be ensuring that all Californians have access to justice in the wake of budget cuts that have decimated our court system.  An effective and efficient judicial branch is absolutely critical to a functioning democracy.”

SANTA BARBARA –  State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and Assemblymember Das Williams (D-Santa Barbara) will host a Town Hall forum Saturday to help explain how federal health care reform will affect Californians.

The meeting will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at the Franklin Elementary School cafeteria, 1111 E. Mason Street, Santa Barbara.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Jerry Brown released his 2014-15 Proposed Budget, a starting point for months of review and discussions in the State Legislature. In response, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) released the following statement:

“Though our deficits are behind us and our budget situation remains the strongest it has been in a decade, I commend Governor Brown for advocating a prudent and responsible course that includes paying off debts, planning for the future, and establishing a more robust rainy day fund.

VENTURA –  State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and Assemblymember Das Williams (D-Santa Barbara) will host a Town Hall forum Saturday to help explain how federal health care reform will affect Californians.

The meeting will take place from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at the WAV Auditorium, 175 S. Ventura Avenue in Ventura.

Jackson will begin the forum with opening remarks.
