SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Jerry Brown released the May Revise, his revised budget proposal based on the latest revenue estimates. SACRAMENTO – A bill by State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) that would prohibit drones from trespassing on private property without the owner’s permission and invading Californians’ privacy just passed off the Senate floor on a bipartisan vote. The vote was 24-9.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to close the wage gap that women face at work passed out of the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee today. The vote was 4-0.

Senate Bill 358, the California Fair Pay Act, would ensure that women are paid equally for work that is comparable or substantially similar to the work of their male colleagues, and do not face retaliation if they discuss or ask about pay at work. If signed into law, it would be the strongest equal pay law in the nation.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) to modernize language in 18 sections of California law to reflect the fact that same-sex couples can now marry passed off the Senate floor on a bipartisan vote today. The vote was 35-2.

Senate Bill 414 changes various code sections in California law mentioning a “husband” and “wife” to the gender-neutral term “spouse” to reflect the fact that same-sex couples can now legally marry in California.

SACRAMENTO – California students are closer to receiving increased education and awareness regarding sexual assault and healthy relationships after the Senate Education Committee passed Senate Bill 695 on a bipartisan, 8-0 vote today. Under the legislation, health courses, which are a condition of graduation for a majority of California high school students, will include instruction on affirmative consent, sexual harassment, assault, violence, and the importance of developing positive, healthy relationships.
