SF Chronicle: More Oil Spill Protections, Not Fewer

June 05, 2015

News that the oil pipeline rupture that closed two state beaches and befouled the coastline near Santa Barbara occurred near a section of corroded pipe repaired in 2012 illustrates the urgent need for increased oil transport oversight. State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, plans to introduce a package of three bills to protect the coast from oil spills and ensure speedy cleanup, including one that would require annual pipeline inspections. These are timely and necessary to prevent or minimize damage from future spills.
